Yesterday, the federal government revealed the new increment on electricity tariff will begin in July
The government reiterated that this is necessary because the impact of COVID-19 has distorted its plans for the power sector
Earlier, the organized labour showed displeasure with the initiation of the new tariff
Speaking on Tuesday, the minister of power, Sale Mamman, declared the increment on the tariff. According to him, this will begin in the month of July.
He made this known before the Senate committee on power on June 16, 2020
Mamman added that the Federal Government is progressing with this decision due the impact of the Corona Virus on its plans. The Covid 19 pandemic has affected its intentions repositioning of the electricity market to achieving financial sustainability.
He revealed that the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) had initially planned to conduct a tariff review in April 2020.
