President Tinubu Nominates New CBN Governor and Deputy Governors, Focusing on Economic Reform

President Bola Tinubu has given his approval for the appointment of Dr. Olayemi Michael Cardoso as the new Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). Dr. Cardoso will serve a five-year term, pending confirmation by the Nigerian Senate.

This decision is in accordance with Section 8 (1) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007, which grants the President of Nigeria the authority to appoint the CBN Governor and four Deputy Governors, subject to Senate confirmation.

Additionally, President Bola Tinubu has nominated four new Deputy Governors for the CBN, each for a five-year term, pending Senate confirmation. The nominees are:

  1. Mrs. Emem Nnana Usoro
  2. Mr. Muhammad Sani Abdullahi Dattijo
  3. Mr. Philip Ikeazor
  4. Dr. Bala M. Bello

President Tinubu expects these nominees to implement vital reforms at the CBN, aligning with his Renewed Hope agenda. These reforms aim to boost the confidence of both Nigerians and international partners in the revitalization of the Nigerian economy, fostering sustainable growth and prosperity.
