President Bola Tinubu is preparing to unveil a new minimum wage for Nigerians. The President is poised to make this significant announcement, unless any unexpected changes arise.

The disclosure came from Comrade Festus Osifo, the President of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), during discussions following the union’s meeting with the federal government regarding the fuel subsidy removal.

The TUC had previously issued a two-week ultimatum to the government, demanding attention to their concerns, or else workers across the nation would consider industrial action.

Speaking on ChannelsTV’s Politics Today, Osifo mentioned that Minister of Labour, Simon Lalong, had conferred with President Tinubu and Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, concerning the wage matter. According to Osifo, Lalong informed the union that the wage issue had undergone review, with President Tinubu expected to address it in the near future.

Osifo stated, “The minister of labour told us that he had a meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the minister of finance to review the wage award. However, the president requested further refinement of the details before making an official announcement.”

Despite requests for an additional two weeks, the union declined, insisting that they couldn’t afford the delay. Consequently, it was agreed that the President would make a formal announcement next week.

Additionally, the TUC emphasized its intent to monitor the distribution of palliatives in various states to ensure proper implementation of the scheme. They sought clarity on the implementation plan and raised concerns related to taxation and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG).
